Job Description
The Consultant – MS SQL DBA role involves managing, administering, and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server environments for enterprise applications. The consultant ensures high availability, security, and performance while supporting migrations, upgrades, and cloud integrations.
Key Responsibilities
• Act as subject matter expert for SQL Server administration
• Install, configure, upgrade, and patch SQL Server (2012–2022)
• Manage Always On Availability Groups, Clustering, Replication, and Log Shipping
• Perform proactive monitoring, tuning, and optimization
• Implement backup and recovery strategies
• Troubleshoot critical database issues and minimize downtime
• Manage database security, roles, and compliance
• Support on-premise and cloud migrations
• Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams
• Prepare SOPs, documentation, and knowledge transfer
• Mentor junior DBAs and guide database design
Required Skills
• 8+ years experience as SQL Server DBA
• Strong expertise in SQL Server administration and troubleshooting
• Hands-on with HA/DR, clustering, and replication
• Performance tuning, indexing, and execution plan analysis
• Backup and recovery using native and third-party tools
• Experience with SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS
• Knowledge of Azure SQL and AWS RDS
• T-SQL scripting and PowerShell (preferred)
• Database security and auditing practices
Preferred Qualifications
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
• Microsoft Certified: SQL Server DBA
• Experience in large enterprise environments
